Conservative estimates indicate that the 2010 BP oil disaster released over 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf, followed by at least 1.8 million gallons of dispersants. While the use of dispersants helped mitigate the public relations disaster by preventing the persistent formation of surface oil, as well as keeping many beaches visibly untouched, they also drove the oil deeper into the water column (and food chain) rendering a 2-dimensional problem (surface oil) into a 3-dimensional one.

Candida (Yeast) is a late sign of impaired gut health. Candida is associated with craving simple carbs (white foods--pasta, bread, rice, and all sugars) which feed the yeast. Candida develops for many reasons. Basically, it is a 'helper' attempting to create balance in the gut, generally due to antibiotics, preservatives, heavy metal toxins and sterile foods. We can make candida obsolete and unnecessary by rebalancing gut microbials.

I am the founder of the Annie Appleseed Project, an all-volunteer nonprofit online since June 1999 providing information, education and advocacy for people with cancer interested in natural therapies, lifestyle issues, complementary and alternative treatments from the patient perspective. It all started because I couldn't take chemotherapy (nor did I care to) after my own cancer diagnosis. I ended up refusing radiation – that’s a story in itself.

Anyone behind me in line at the supermarket check-out would think me uncharitable. The cashier asks,‘Would you like to donate a meal to the X house for the poor?’ Naturally, it is deliberate that her script obliges that any answer other than an enthusiastic ‘Oh, yes please! I would love nothing more!’ renders you instantly a heartless shell of a human.

The CDC announced on June 8th that they are almost at the finish line of global polio eradication. They’ve not had a case of wild polio since January 13, 2011. Whoopee! But they still have plenty of paralysis. In fact they have more and more every year. AND …children with non-polio Acute Flaccid Paralysis(AFP), the new name for polio, are at more than twice the risk of dying than those with wild polio infection!

The biggest vitamin D story in 2011 was the report on dietary reference intakes for calcium and vitamin D from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) [1]. This report was prepared during a two-year process by 14 nutrition experts, with funding from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health and Health Canada. People often balk at the concept that a gluten-free diet may improve the condition of autistic children.
